You have questions. Here are the honest answers.

Birth doula support is still a new concept for many families in South Georgia. We've answered the questions we hear most often below.

What does a birth doula actually do?

A doula provides non-medical emotional, physical, and informational support during birth. Your OB-GYN or midwife manages your medical care. Dr. Doula focuses entirely on you, your comfort, your understanding, and your confidence throughout the process.

What makes Dr. Doula different from other doulas?

Dr. Doula is led by a physician with over 20 years of OB-GYN experience. That clinical background means she understands everything happening in the delivery room—the terminology, the protocols, the decisions—at a level most doulas simply don't. You get both heart and expertise.

Is this a replacement for my OB-GYN?

No. Dr. Doula works alongside your medical team. All clients are required to have a physician or midwife managing their prenatal care. Dr. Doula's role is to support your experience, not to provide medical care or make clinical decisions.

Does Dr. Doula deliver babies or perform medical procedures?

No. In her doula role, Dr. Adams-Cruel does not practice medicine. Her medical knowledge informs how she supports you, but she does not diagnose, treat, or perform procedures.

Does Dr. Doula support home births?

No. Dr. Doula currently supports hospital births only, in Albany, GA and surrounding South Georgia communities.

When should I reach out?

Ideally in your second trimester—around 20 to 28 weeks—so there's time to prepare together. Dr. Doula takes a limited number of clients per month, so earlier is better.

What happens if my birth doesn't go as planned?

Part of our prenatal preparation together will include discussing potential scenarios, from unplanned interventions to changes in your birth plan. Whatever happens, Dr. Doula stays by your side and makes sure you feel informed and supported through it.

What is your payment structure?

Dr. Doula requires half of your package rate at signing and the other half at 36 weeks. Full payment is required if contacting at 37–38+ weeks)

How much does it cost?

Birth doula services with Dr. Doula start at $3,000. Final pricing is discussed during your complimentary consultation.

Do you offer any financial assistance?

Not at this time. As Dr. Doula grows her practice, she hopes to take on a small number of select pro bono clients in the future. Stay tuned for updates.
